Malaysia's much-travelled pro Genevieve Ling is enjoying her new European gig. Having competed previously on various circuits in Asia and the United States, the 27-year-old is now plying her trade on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

"It’s been awesome to travel and play a full calendar again! This is the first time around for me in Europe, so I’m obviously still learning," said Genevieve.

"Each week in a new country is definitely fun but also challenging ... different cultures, languages, currencies, travel routes. And figuring out the mode of transportation, as in Europe you can fly, take a train, or take a bus. It’s a learning curve for sure!"

Earlier this year, Genevieve played in three LET Access Series events in Europe and did pretty well, highlighted by a T21 finish at the PGA Championship Trelleborg in Sweden in mid-May.

While she subsequently missed the cut in her first two LET starts on European soil, most recently by two strokes in last week's Tipsport Czech Ladies Open, Genevieve is hopeful that things will fall into place soon.

"I’m playing in some of the biggest events I’ve played in to-date, so it’s great to be out here and competing with some really good players and seeing where I stand. I think I’m still figuring out life on tour more than anything else," she noted.

"Golf-wise, I'm still figuring out what works for me and what doesn’t ... not in terms of my swing but in terms of playing the game as a whole. The results aren’t what I would like yet but, as they always say, I’m focusing on the process and getting as much knowledge and experience as I can," added Genevieve, who turned professional in 2017 after graduating from Boise State University in the USA

Fortunately, Genevieve has a 'big sister' to go to for advice in fellow Malaysian Ainil Bakar, who has played mainly in Europe for much of her 12-year professional career.

"Yes, it’s definitely nice to have another Malaysian on the same tour ... but it’s also funny because some weeks we don’t see each other at all! Ainil travels by camper van, so her travel plans vary from mine. But it is nice to know that if I did have issues, there’s a familiar face around," shared Genevieve.

"It’s also nice to have someone to talk to in Malay! A lot of the girls here speak to each other in their own languages, so it’s great to have someone around to speak to in a different language as well."

Genevieve's next tournament is this week's Amundi German Masters in Berlin, where her Round 1 tee-off is at 1.33pm (Malaysian time 7.33pm) on Thursday. She will then play in the next two LET events, the Estrella Damm Ladies Open in Spain and the Big Green Egg Open in the Netherlands, before returning to Malaysia.
